Christmas Movie Review – Day 22

Though I thought twice about reviewing a movie that no doubt has been reviewed too many times to count, I couldn’t help myself.  Elf – 2003, New Line Cinema, is my selection for Day 22 of my Christmas Movie Review.

Day 22 - Elf

In fact, I resisted watching Elf until last summer (I know, crazy.) when a friend loaned me her DVD.  It is one those movies that make you wonder why you held out so long.  You may think my review is a foregone conclusion, but I do have a caveat. Continue reading

Christmas Movie Review – Day 21

I finally watched Snow – 2004, ABC Family, my selection for Day 21 of My Christmas Movie Review.

Day 21, Snow

I’d been looking forward to seeing Snow, excited that one of my favorite actors, Tom Cavanagh (please see my Day 13 review for Trading Christmas), plays Santa.  And the story pivots around a reindeer – I love reindeer. Continue reading

Christmas Movie Review – Day 20

If you like your Christmas movies romantic, mysterious, and intense, my selection for Day 20 of my Christmas Movie Review is The Spirit of Christmas aka Hollygrove – 2015, Lifetime.

Day 20 - The-Spirit-of-Christmas_keyart

Kate, a woman who initially scoffs at the possibility of ghosts, finds herself helping Daniel (a ghost) discover the reason he becomes a real person for twelve days before Christmas every year since he died 95 years earlier at the Hollygrove Inn. Continue reading

Christmas Movie Review – Day 19

I love reindeer and finally caught Last Chance For Christmas – 2015, Lifetime, as the Day 19 selection for my Christmas Movie Review.Day 19 -Last Chance For Christmas
When poor Prancer goes lame a few days before Christmas, the head of Santa’s Reindeer Department, John Stockton, is tasked with finding a replacement, or Santa won’t be able to deliver presents and Christmas will be ruined.  Continue reading

Christmas Movie Review – Day 18

Santa Baby, 2006 – ABC Family, is the Day 18 selection for my Christmas Movie Review. You might find yourself smiling like an elf if you listen to the links below.

Day 18 - santababy

The Beach Boys’ The Man With All The Toys accompanies the opening scene when Mary (Okay, I would’ve named her Merry.) opens the door to her taxi, knocking over a street Santa and steps over him in her rush to a corporate meeting where she wows the board with a hi-tech proposal. Continue reading

Christmas Movie Review – Day 17

Journey to the Christmas Star – 2012, a Norwegian film (distributed by Walt Disney Company Nordic) over which my husband and I still debate whether or not it was dubbed, is the selection for Day 17 of my Christmas Movie Review.

Day 17 - Journey to the Christmas Star

I have to watch this movie again.

After the introduction explaining how both the Christmas Star, and the King’s daughter, Goldenhair, were lost, the story begins as Sonja, a 14 year old girl who slaves away like Cinderella, escapes and sets off on a quest to find the Christmas Star. Continue reading

Christmas Movie Review – Day 16

Aha. I’m going a little off script on the Day 16 selection for my Christmas Movie Review (in case you’re pre-screening for minors) with Holiday in Handcuffs – 2007, ABC Family.

Day 16 - Holiday-In-Handcuffs

This movie skips the traditional decorating the tree and baking Christmas cookies scenes in favor of spiking the eggnog for Grandma, ironically played by June Lockhart – everyone’s favorite TV mom from Lassie.  Combine the language and creepy old man at the gas station, and I don’t see watching this selection with wee ones who soak up every word. You won’t find a real Santa in sight.  Continue reading

Christmas Movie Review – Day 15

Ice Sculpture Christmas – 2015, Hallmark, is my Day 15 selection for my Christmas Movie Review.  Though it might seem predictable (and it ultimately is), there are a few moments that break the mold (ha) along the way.

Day 15 - ice-sculpture-christmas

Break out (I’m on a roll.) moments include:

  • Ice sculpting facts and techniques that made the movie more real, and piqued my interest in the art. It actually gave me a new respect for the skill involved, and no, I’m not jumping into a new hobby.

Christmas Movie Review – Day 14

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.  Or not.

My Day 14 selection for my Christmas Movie Review Countdown is Christmas With The Kranks – 2004, Feature Family/Comedy.

Day 14 - Christmas-with-the-Kranks

Since we aren’t putting up a tree this year (thanks to crazy new kitty Storm, aka El Niño), I can identity with the premise of not doing Christmas for a change. Kind of. At least the decorations. Continue reading

Christmas Movie Review – Day 13

I’ve fallen in love all over again with my pick for Day 13 of my Christmas Movie Review with Trading Christmas, 2011, Hallmark.

Day 13 - Trading Christmas

I didn’t want this sweet and impertinent movie to end.  As soon as Charles drove along the picturesque streets of a charming Smalltown, USA, and noted that he must be in Who-ville, I settled in for a satisfying experience. Continue reading
