National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation – 1989, Warner Bros., has been on my mind, so it’s my Day 23 selection of my Christmas Movie Review.
In the essence of time, I’m going to cut to the chase (no pun intended).
This is a movie that makes me feel good. I laugh until I have tears in my eyes with the uncomfortable family moments and the slapstick humor of the catapulting squirrel. The moment I start watching, I anticipate this scene and the chaos that ensues afterward.
And…

Action.
There is so much happening throughout this movie, even if you’ve seen it before, you’ll still notice something new.
I remember the first time I saw this movie, I spent a lot of time pondering how Randy Quaid could be, in fact, related to Dennis…

No, he’s not in this movie.
But I digress.
If by chance, you haven’t seen Christmas Vacation, sit back and enjoy the ride. Chevy Chase is in his heyday as a man who’s determined to make the best Christmas ever for his family under circumstances that grow worse and worse.
I give this movie a 5 of 5 Leaping Christmas Squirrels for its sheer entertainment value alone. ♥♥♥♥♥
PS: You could be wondering how I deducted .5 for food grossness in my Elf review and not address the ick moments here. I think it’s a matter of familiarity blindness.
I watched Christmas Vacation today on DVD. It had been years since I’d seen it. There were big hunks of plot I hadn’t remembered, like when Chevy Chase blocked the front door refusing to let any family make and early exit before any more calamities occurred. I enjoyed it more than I expected to. As always, fun to read your review.
Thank you so much, Janean! I know what you mean about forgotten scenes being discovered all over again! ~ G
